About this site
Fix First Home is an independent reference for Canadian home-upgrade rebate programmes. It exists because most of the pages answering these questions are out of date, and some of them are sending people to application forms that closed years ago.
Updated .
Who maintains it
This site is built and maintained by the owner of OK Web Works, a web design business in Vernon, British Columbia. It is a personal project rather than a company product, and the two are run separately.
One person reads the source pages, records what they say, and writes what is here. That is worth stating plainly, because it sets the limits: this is a carefully maintained reference, not a government service and not professional advice.
Why it exists
In 2025 and 2026 the Canadian home-retrofit landscape changed underneath everybody. The Canada Greener Homes Grant closed. So did the $40,000 Greener Homes Loan, and the federal-only Oil to Heat Pump stream. Ontario replaced its main programme outright. Federal money did not stop — but you can no longer apply to Ottawa for it, and it now arrives only through a province or a utility.
Almost none of that is reflected in what a search returns. Contractor pages, installer blogs and aggregator sites still advertise closed programmes as open, because nobody is paid to take a page down. Somebody planning a $20,000 heat pump installation deserves better than that.
How it is kept honest
Four rules, described in full on the how we verify page:
- Primary sources only. Every amount comes off the administrator’s own page.
- Every figure carries the date a person last read it, and that date moves at no other time.
- Unknowns stay blank. Gaps are published as gaps rather than filled with a plausible number.
- A loan is never added to a grant.
What has moved is logged on the changes page.
What this site is not
Read this before acting on anything here
This is not financial, tax or professional advice, and it is not an application service. It cannot tell you whether you personally qualify for anything.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for Natural Resources Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Government of Ontario, BC Hydro, FortisBC, the Independent Electricity System Operator, Save on Energy, Enbridge Gas, or any programme administrator. No administrator pays for or reviews anything published here.
Programmes change without notice and funding runs out mid-year. Always confirm on the administrator’s own page — linked beside every figure — before spending money.
How it is paid for
Nothing on this site is sponsored, and no programme administrator, contractor or installer pays to appear or to be described a particular way. There are no affiliate links and no referral fees.
The intention is to cover hosting costs through ordinary display advertising. Where that happens it will be clearly marked as advertising, it will never be mixed into the rebate figures or the ordering of programmes, and the privacy page describes what it means for your data.
Corrections
If a figure here is wrong, out of date, or contradicted by the administrator’s own page, that is worth knowing about and it will be fixed. Write to [email protected]. Corrections are the point of the whole exercise.
