Programmes that have closed

These are finished. They are listed here because they are still advertised as open across much of the web, and because people keep searching for them long after they end. Where something replaced a programme, it is named.

Widely still advertised as open by contractor sites. It is not.

Home Efficiency Rebate Plus closed

Ontario

Stopped taking new applicants on 5 February 2024; the last day to submit was 31 December 2025.

Ontario's big rebate programme before the Home Renovation Savings Program, and the one still most often advertised as open. New applicants stopped being accepted on 5 February 2024; every remaining post-retrofit assessment had to be finished by 1 December 2025 and every application submitted by 31 December 2025. Enbridge Gas warns on its own page that companies unaffiliated with it are still promoting the programme through social media, print, email, phone, television and radio.

Some council pages still describe them. What each municipality pays now.

Rénovation Québec suspended

Quebec

Suspended since 1 April 2025 for lack of new funding. It paid for most Quebec cities’ renovation grants, so Québec City, Longueuil, Sherbrooke and Saguenay take no new applications. Montréal’s RénoPlex and Gatineau’s own programme still do. City by city.

Closed to new applicants, but not finished

These have stopped taking registrations. Money may still be moving for people already accepted, and where a deadline still binds them it is named.

LogisVert — Modest-Income Households closed-to-registration

Quebec

Registration for the 2026-2027 season has ended on both halves — Hydro-Québec's page and Éconologis's say so in the same words. Applications already in are being processed. Since Éconologis is the only door into this programme and Éconologis is shut, a Quebec household reading about a free heat pump today cannot start one.

A household that does not qualify on income applies to the ordinary LogisVert programme instead, and pays for the heat pump less the grant.

What it paid, and what to do instead →

source · verified 23 September 2026

Éconologis closed-to-registration

Quebec

Registration for the 2026-2027 season has ended. The Ministère says why: Hydro-Québec's free heat pump offer drew so much interest that the visit capacity was reached. The small programme was overwhelmed by the large one it is the gateway to.

A household over the income line applies to Rénoclimat for envelope work and to LogisVert for equipment, and pays for both up front.

What it paid, and what to do instead →

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability — New Brunswick closed-to-registration

New Brunswick

Stopped accepting new applications on 30 June 2026.

The federal government closed registration on 30 June 2026. New Brunswick took no registrations after that date, and nothing replaced the advance payment.

Registering was not enough. All required paperwork had to be submitted by 1 October 2026, and that date has passed. Projects that made it must have the upgrades and final energy evaluation finished by 31 March 2027, or the advance payment must be repaid to NB Power.

Under $70,000, apply to the Enhanced Energy Savings Program. Over it, register with the Total Home Energy Savings Program, where heat pump rebates of up to $2,000 are still paid.

What it paid, and what to do instead →

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability — Nova Scotia closed-to-registration

Nova Scotia

Stopped accepting new applications on 2 July 2026.

The available funding was fully allocated. From 2 July 2026 Efficiency Nova Scotia stopped accepting new applications. It ran out of money rather than reaching an end date.

Being on the standby list is not funding. Efficiency Nova Scotia says applications already submitted and those on standby will keep being reviewed if additional funding becomes available, and says plainly that standby does not guarantee anything.

An oil-heated Nova Scotian household applies to HomeWarming if it is under that programme's income line, or to the Moderate Income Rebate, which pays $1,500 a ton for a centrally ducted heat pump on top of the Home Energy Assessment's $500.

What it paid, and what to do instead →

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability — the federal-only stream closed

Closed 31 July 2026 for residents of AB, MB, NT, QC, SK. The Yukon co-delivers it, as the Affordable Heat Pump Program. In Saskatchewan the province’s own retrofit rebate had already ended in April; see the Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate. Efficiency Manitoba’s own Affordable Home Energy Program page still offers oil-heated Manitoba homeowners up to $20,000 through it. What Manitoba still has.

But not everywhere

In British Columbia and the other co-delivering provinces this programme is still open — you apply through the province, not to Ottawa. See how it works in B.C.

source · verified 23 September 2026

What replaced them

Federal money did not stop when these closed — it moved. It now reaches homeowners only through provincial and utility programmes. In B.C. that means the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program arrives as the Energy Conservation Assistance Program. In Ontario the same federal oil-to-heat-pump money arrives through the Energy Affordability Program, and the province’s own any-income rebate is now the Home Renovation Savings Program.

United States

Amounts in US dollars.

Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) closed

Covers only improvements made through 31 December 2025. It paid 30% of heat pumps, insulation, windows, doors and audits, up to $3,200 a year. The IRS page’s own search description still offers the $3,200 with no end date. What it paid.

source · verified 24 September 2026

Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D) closed

Not available for anything placed in service after 31 December 2025. It paid 30% of solar, batteries, geothermal heat pumps, solar water heaters, small wind and fuel cells, with no cap. What it paid.
