Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) waitlist

Administered by the California Public Utilities Commission, through PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas, the Center for Sustainable Energy and LADWP.

California's home battery rebate. The ratepayer budgets took their last projects at the end of 2025. What is left is the state-funded equity budget for low-income homes, $1,100 per kWh of storage and $3,100 per kW of solar, and it is waitlisted except for customers of publicly owned utilities in the PG&E and SCE areas.

The thing most pages get wrong

The Public Utilities Commission's own pages are the stale ones. Its "Participating in SGIP" page still carries updates dated December 2020, and its main SGIP page says every applicant must enroll in a demand response program, a rule the administrators dropped for the equity budgets in January 2026. Meanwhile the ratepayer budgets took no projects after 30 December 2025, and waitlisted applications without funding were terminated.

The one budget that is open

Low-income customers of publicly owned utilities other than LADWP, in the PG&E and SCE administrator areas, can still reserve equity funding without a waitlist. New equity applications of any kind must be in by 30 June 2028.
