Fix First HomeWhat home-upgrade rebates actually pay — and who you apply to.

Fix First Home › Quebec

Quebec pays twice, and says so in writing.

Two bodies fund home upgrades here — the province through Rénoclimat and Hydro-Québec through LogisVert — and Quebec’s own page states that you may claim from both, provided each claim covers different work. That sentence is worth more than most of the amounts.

Updated .

The short version

The envelope is the province’s. The equipment is Hydro-Québec’s.

Rénoclimat pays for insulation, air sealing, doors and windows. It pays nothing at all towards a heating system — not a furnace, not a heat pump, not a geothermal loop, and not even a thermostat. All of that moved to Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert. Knowing which side of that line your job falls on is most of what a Quebec homeowner needs.

The stacking answer, in writing

Quebec answers the stacking question in writing. Rénoclimat's own eligibility page states that its assistance and Hydro-Québec's LogisVert are complementary and that you may apply to both, provided each application covers a different type of work — insulation and air sealing from Rénoclimat, the heat pump from LogisVert. It even gives the worked example.

What actually exists

Five provincial programmes for energy work, two for repairs and adaptation, the gas distributors’ and Hydro-Québec’s own offers, and two cities’ grants. Three are shut to new registrations right now, and the pages advertising them do not lead with that.

Rénoclimat

up to $3,750 for walls alone

The province’s envelope grant. Paid on the measured improvement between two energy evaluations, not on the invoice.

What it pays, line by line →

LogisVert

up to $22,000

Hydro-Québec’s rebate programme. Most of it is paid per 1,000 BTU/h, not as a flat sum.

Every measure and rate →

LogisVert — Modest-Income Households

free, if you can get in

A cold-climate heat pump installed at no cost for modest-income households — reachable only through Éconologis, which is shut for the season.

Who qualifies, and when →

Éconologis

free advice and light work

The province’s income-tested winter programme, and the only door to the free heat pump. Registration for 2026-2027 has closed.

The income table →

Dual energy conversion

$6,800 to $7,300 on forced air

For gas-heated homes. Delivered by Énergir, which adds $500 of its own, or Enbridge Gaz Québec, under the name of a programme that closed. Quebec’s own page prints no figure at all.

The amounts, from the framework →

RénoRégion

up to $25,000

Major repairs for low-income owner-occupants outside the big cities. Framework ends 31 March 2027.

The income levels →

Home adaptation (PAD)

up to $50,000

Adapting a home for a disability, with no income test. Registrations reopened on 12 August 2026.

The two options →

Enbridge Gaz Québec

Rénoclimat, matched

In the Outaouais: the Rénoclimat grant paid again, plus $850 for a combination system.

The order that matters →

Hilo thermostats

$0, on credit

Hydro-Québec's smart thermostats on the Flex D rate. Leave in the first year and you pay the balance.

The catch →

RénoPlex (Montréal)

up to $26,000

Renovation grants for 1 to 5 dwellings, including $1,350 a dwelling for a heat pump replacing oil or gas.

Every amount →

Laval oil heating grant

up to $2,000

For replacing oil with electric or renewable heat, retroactive to 2017. Gas and propane earn nothing.

Who can claim →

Rénovation Québec

suspended

The money behind most city renovation grants, suspended since 1 April 2025.

Which cities still pay →

What your city and your gas distributor add

Since the province suspended Rénovation Québec, which paid for most city renovation grants, the answer depends heavily on where you live.

Enbridge Gaz Québec serves Gatineau and the Outaouais; Énergir most of the rest of southern Quebec. Enbridge’s match is not paid to homes heated by an electric heat pump, so insulate before converting to dual energy.

What a Quebec homeowner is told that is not true today

Chauffez vert is closed

Government assistance for converting a central oil or propane heating system ended on 31 March 2026. The work had to be finished and the application submitted before that date, and the page states that no application received after it is accepted. Its name lives on: the dual-energy conversion grant for gas customers still runs under the Chauffez vert normative framework, so a search turns up something live that is not the programme people are looking for.

The federal loan Quebec still advertises is gone

Quebec’s own hub page for retrofit assistance tells readers that Rénoclimat participants may be eligible for an interest-free federal loan of up to $40,000. Its own sub-page says the Canada Greener Homes Loan stopped accepting applications on 1 October 2025. Both pages are on quebec.ca, and they contradict each other.

Hydro-Québec still advertises offers that ended

Its own offers page promotes a $100 rebate on an ECOPEAK water heater whose coupon says the offer ran “jusqu’au 31 décembre 2023”, and a “Thermopompes efficaces” programme that LogisVert replaced. Its “other programmes” page still describes the Chauffez vert oil and propane grant, which ended on 31 March 2026.

“Your city has a renovation grant”

Only if it is Montréal or Gatineau. Rénovation Québec, which paid for the others, has been suspended since 1 April 2025, and Québec City, Longueuil, Sherbrooke and Saguenay take no new applications. Trois-Rivières goes further and lists RénoRégion as suspended too; the province’s own page says it is not.

And one thing that is true, and worse than it sounds

Quebec is not one of the seven jurisdictions co-delivering the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability programme, so Quebecers were left on the federal-only stream — and that stream closed on 31 July 2026. Rénoclimat’s own mechanical systems page still lists OHPA under “other available financial assistance programs”. An oil-heated Quebec household following that link has nothing to apply to.

Questions Quebecers actually ask

Can I claim Rénoclimat and LogisVert on the same house?

Yes, and Quebec says so on the programme's own eligibility page: the two are complementary, provided each application covers a different type of work. Its worked example is insulation and air sealing from Rénoclimat, and a heat pump from LogisVert.

Does Rénoclimat pay for a heat pump?

No. Rénoclimat no longer funds the installation or replacement of any heating system, and air heat pumps, air conditioners and geothermal systems are named as ineligible. Heat pumps are Hydro-Québec's side of the line, through LogisVert.

How much is the Quebec heat pump rebate?

It depends on the size of the machine, not on what you paid. LogisVert pays $50 per 1,000 BTU/h of capacity at -8°C for an ENERGY STAR heat pump and $120 per 1,000 BTU/h if the unit is rated for cold climates, up to a headline $6,700. A smaller heat pump is worth proportionally less.

Is Chauffez vert still available?

No. Government assistance for converting an oil or propane central heating system ended on 31 March 2026, and no application received after that date is accepted. The dual-energy conversion grant for natural gas customers still runs under the Chauffez vert name, which is why the programme appears to be alive.

Does Rénoclimat cost anything to apply for?

Yes. The first pre-retrofit energy evaluation costs $150 plus taxes. It is reimbursed when the financial assistance is paid, so it is a deposit if the work goes ahead and a cost if it does not. A $75 fee applies if the advisor attends and the evaluation cannot be carried out.

Can I get a free heat pump in Quebec?

Only through Éconologis, and only if your household income is at or under the season's threshold — $59,076 for one person, rising to $144,705 for six or more. Registration for the 2026-2027 season has already ended because Hydro-Québec's offer drew more interest than the visits could cover.

Is there any federal money left for a Quebec homeowner?

One programme, and it is not a rebate on the work. Quebec is not an Oil to Heat Pump Affordability co-delivery partner, so Quebecers were on the federal-only stream, which closed on 31 July 2026. What remains is CMHC Eco Improvement, which refunds 25% of a mortgage insurance premium for recent buyers who complete at least $20,000 of qualifying renovations.

Is there still a renovation subsidy in Québec City, Longueuil or Sherbrooke?

Not for now. Those cities' grants ran on the province's Rénovation Québec, suspended since 1 April 2025 for lack of new funding, and none of them takes new applications. Montréal's RénoPlex and Gatineau's own programme still do, Gatineau's with a waiting list of about two years. Outside the big cities, RénoRégion pays low-income owners up to $25,000 for major defects.

Does the Quebec home adaptation program have an income limit?

No. The Programme d'adaptation de domicile has no income test. It pays up to $50,000 for the first person with a significant and persistent disability, or $12,000 outside and $12,000 inside the home through a self-directed route. Registrations reopened on 12 August 2026.

Are Hydro-Québec's Hilo thermostats really free?

They are installed for $0 on the Flex D rate, but as a credit that Hilo writes off over twelve months. If you leave the programme, or override its automation during 10 or more peak events in the first winter, the unpaid balance becomes due.

Does Énergir give rebates on a new furnace?

No. Énergir's only residential equipment rebate outside dual energy is $100 toward a smart thermostat, plus $220 for low-income households. Enbridge Gaz Québec, in the Outaouais, pays $850 for a high-efficiency combination system and matches Rénoclimat dollar for dollar.

What does Rénoclimat pay for flood protection since October 2026?

Since 1 October 2026, $700 to $1,000 for simple work such as a backwater valve or a battery-backed sump pump, up to $1,000 for a climate risk diagnosis, and up to 75% of the cost, to $35,000, for bigger work on homes in recognized risk zones. All Rénoclimat help together is capped at $38,500 per home.
