Programme d'adaptation de domicile (PAD) open

Administered by the Société d'habitation du Québec, with municipalities and MRCs.

Quebec's grant for adapting a home to a person's significant and persistent disability: up to $50,000 for the first person and $10,000 for each additional one, or a simpler self-directed route of $12,000 outside and $12,000 inside. Registrations reopened on 12 August 2026 after a suspension since April 2025, and there is no income test.

What it pays

Option 1: with professional support

An occupational therapist and an inspector plan the work, through your municipality or MRC.

First person in the household
$50,000
Each additional eligible person
$10,000
Pays for
Adaptation only, not renovation: ramps, wider doors, grab bars, curbless showers, ceiling lifts, stair lifts, power door openers
Timing
Several months; no work before the municipality or MRC authorizes it

Option 2: self-directed

You choose from a fixed list; the SHQ administers it directly.

Access to the home
$12,000
Inside the home
$12,000
Pays for
Ramps, widened doors, handrails, a curbless shower of about 60 by 40 inches, grab bars, lowered thresholds, a straight stair lift on an occupational therapist's advice
Timing
Usually a few weeks for the SHQ to decide

In option 2 a curved stair lift is not eligible, and a private occupational therapist's fees are reimbursed up to $500.

Who is eligible

Who qualifies

  • The person with the disability is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, with proof that the incapacity is significant and persistent
  • No PAD or AccèsLogis adaptation grant in the last five years
  • The grant goes to the owner of the dwelling, so a tenant's landlord applies
  • Disability tax credit recipients can let Revenu Québec confirm it

What disqualifies you

The rules people find out about after the work is done.

  • Work done or started before authorization, in option 1.
  • Renovation that is not adaptation.
  • A home under construction, in option 1; use option 2.

The thing most pages get wrong

Québec City's page still says registrations are closed. It reads: "Aucune nouvelle demande d'inscription ne sera acceptée par la SHQ à compter du 1er avril 2025, et ce, jusqu'à nouvel ordre" [no new registration will be accepted from 1 April 2025, until further notice]. The province reopened registrations on 12 August 2026.

No income test

The programme's 2026-2027 framework never mentions income. It runs to 30 June 2027, on $88 million for 2025 and 2026.
