Fix First Home › Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has almost nothing left for a homeowner.

The province’s retrofit rebate ended in April 2026, and the federal oil-to-heat-pump money closed for Saskatchewan on 31 July. There is no heat pump rebate anywhere in the province. What is left is a rebate on gas equipment, a free visit for lower-income households, fifty free furnaces, and, in Saskatoon only, a loan. Here is all of it, read off the administrators’ own pages.

Updated .

The short version

The retrofit rebate is gone, and nothing replaced it

SaskPower and SaskEnergy ran the Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate together. It paid for insulation, air sealing, windows and doors, and it was the province’s only envelope rebate. Both utilities’ pages now say it ended in April 2026, and point to a gas-equipment rebate and a free efficiency visit instead.

No heat pump rebate, provincial or federal

Saskatchewan is not one of the seven jurisdictions that co-deliver the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, so its homeowners were on the federal-only stream, and Natural Resources Canada closed it on 31 July 2026. SaskEnergy’s rebate pays only for gas equipment, and SaskPower publishes no heat pump rebate at all. In Saskatoon, the City’s loan will finance one.

Two income lines, and the lower one decides the furnace

SaskPower’s Energy Assistance Program reaches well into the middle of the income range: $114,730 for a household of four. SaskEnergy’s Heating Affordability Program only invites households from that programme, and draws its own line far lower, at $75,000 for four. A family between the two gets the free visit and not the furnace.

Fifty furnaces for the province

The Heating Affordability Program will replace up to 50 furnaces, all made in 1999 or earlier, between 30 June 2026 and 31 January 2027, first come, first served. There is no application: SaskEnergy invites households its partner has already visited.

What closed, and what you will still be told to apply for

Every one of these is still recommended somewhere on the web today.

  • Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate — ended April 2026. Contractor pages still describe it as if it were running.
  • Oil to Heat Pump Affordability, federal-only stream — closed 31 July 2026 for Saskatchewan. There is no Saskatchewan co-delivery programme to fall back to.
  • City of Regina Residential Retrofit Rebate — closed. It matched Canada Greener Homes Grant money up to $5,000. The City’s page still says the Greener Homes Grant “is available”; it closed on 31 December 2025.
  • Canada Greener Homes Grant — closed 31 December 2025.
  • Canada Greener Homes Loan — closed. Still advertised widely as an open $40,000 interest-free loan.

Questions people in Saskatchewan actually ask

Are there any home renovation rebates in Saskatchewan in 2026?

Very few. The Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate, which paid for insulation, air sealing, windows and doors, ended in April 2026. What remains province-wide is SaskEnergy's Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate for high-efficiency gas furnaces, boilers and water heaters ($325 to $1,000), SaskPower's free Energy Assistance Program for income-qualified households, and SaskEnergy's Heating Affordability Program, which installs 50 free furnaces by invitation. Saskatoon homeowners can also borrow through the City's Home Energy Loan Program.

Is there a heat pump rebate in Saskatchewan?

No. Neither SaskPower nor SaskEnergy pays a rebate on a heat pump, and the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program closed for Saskatchewan on 31 July 2026. In Saskatoon, the City's Home Energy Loan Program will finance a cold-climate air source or geothermal heat pump, but that is a loan.

What happened to the Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate?

SaskPower and SaskEnergy both say it ended in April 2026. Neither gives a reason or a replacement.

Who qualifies for SaskPower's Energy Assistance Program?

SaskPower, Saskatoon Light & Power and Swift Current Light & Power customers, owners or renters, with pre-tax household income of $54,335 or less for one person, $114,730 for four, and up to $180,721 for ten. It installs LED bulbs, a block heater timer, efficient showerheads and, where eligible, a smart thermostat, free.

What interest rate does Saskatoon's Home Energy Loan Program charge?

For 2026, 3.24% over 5 years, 4.03% over 10, 4.68% over 15 and 4.83% over 20, fixed once you sign. Loans run from $1,000 to $40,000, or $60,000 for a project that halves the home's energy use, and are repaid on the property tax bill.
