Rénovation Québec closed-to-registration

Administered by the Société d'habitation du Québec, through participating municipalities.

The provincial money behind most Quebec cities' renovation grants. It has been suspended since 1 April 2025 for lack of new funding, so Québec City, Longueuil, Sherbrooke and Saguenay take no new applications; Montréal and Gatineau still run grants of their own.

What it pays

City renovation grants in 2026
CityStatus
Québec CityClosed to new applications while the programme is suspended
LongueuilClosed; files without an eligibility certificate by 31 March 2025 are permanently closed
SherbrookeClosed; about 250 applications were waiting in 2024-2025
SaguenaySuspended; its own small urgent-repair grant (up to $5,000) remains
MontréalOpen, through RénoPlex, funded under its own agreement with the province
GatineauOpen, under its own by-law: $6,250 to $15,000 per dwelling for buildings built before 1985, with the owner paying half and a waiting list of about two years

While it ran, it was a framework: the province funded municipalities that set up their own renovation programmes for residential areas needing revitalization, and each city chose its target sectors and its interventions, such as major-defect repairs for low incomes, renovation, facades, home adaptation and cracked foundations. Québec City's grid, still on its page, paid 50% of eligible costs, $12,500 to $30,000 per dwelling and up to $300,000 per building.

Where the application goes

No applications are accepted. In Montréal and Gatineau, apply to the city's own programme.

The thing most pages get wrong

"En l'absence de nouveau financement, le programme est suspendu temporairement depuis le 1er avril 2025. Aucune demande n'est acceptée pour le moment." [With no new funding, the programme has been temporarily suspended since 1 April 2025. No application is being accepted.] The SHQ page was updated on 31 July 2026. People still search for a Rénovation Québec grant; outside Montréal and Gatineau there is none to apply for.

A city page that goes further than the province

Trois-Rivières' subsidies page, updated 4 August 2026, says the SHQ suspended all of its programmes from 1 April 2025 and that the city can take no new registrations, and it says so under RénoRégion. That is true of Rénovation Québec. RénoRégion is not suspended: the province's page carries no notice, a framework authorized on 7 May 2025 runs to 31 March 2027, and its income table took effect on 17 July 2026.

What is still open for repairs

Outside the big cities, RénoRégion pays low-income owners up to $25,000 for major defects. For a disability, the home adaptation programme reopened on 12 August 2026. An owner who received Rénovation Québec or RénoRégion money in the previous five years cannot get RénoRégion.
