Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program open via province

What it pays

Programme components and amounts
ComponentAmount
Federal-only stream cap (closed 31 July 2026)$10,000
Federal cap where a province co-delivers$15,000
Extra provincial match, up to$5,000
Combined cap where a province co-delivers$25,000
Bonus cheque$250

Read this before quoting a figure

NRCan's $25,000 figure is an Ontario example: $15,000 federal plus $10,000 provincial. It is not a B.C. figure. In B.C. the provincial share is whatever the Energy Savings Program pays, which works differently.

Where the application goes

Co-delivering provinces route applicants to their own programme, and set their own deadlines. NRCan: 'For deadlines and closures, check with your provincial or territorial program.' That is why the 31 July 2026 federal-only deadline does not bind B.C. - and why two provinces have since closed on dates of their own. Check the province before telling anyone this is open where they live.

NBCLOSED to new registrations on 30 June 2026, when the federal government closed registration. Deadlines still bind people already in the queue: https://www.saveenergynb.ca/en/for-home/oil-to-heat-pump-affordability/
NLNewfoundland and Labrador does not run OHPA under that name. Its Oil to Electric Incentive Program is still open and is delivered in partnership with the federal and provincial governments: https://takechargenl.ca/oiltoelectric
NSCLOSED to new applicants on 2 July 2026, when the available funding was fully allocated. A standby list exists and guarantees nothing: https://www.efficiencyns.ca/programs-rebates/oil-to-heat-pump-affordability-program

And the second thing

Two of the co-delivery provinces have now closed, three days apart, for two different reasons — New Brunswick on 30 June 2026 because Ottawa closed registration, Nova Scotia on 2 July 2026 because its funding ran out. NRCan's own page still presents co-delivery as the live route. Check the province, not Ottawa.

If you live in B.C.

B.C. is a co-delivery partner, so B.C. households apply through the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, not to NRCan. The 31 July 2026 deadline belongs to the federal-only stream and does not bind B.C. The B.C. route lasts as long as the Energy Savings Program does, and no end date for it is published. The CleanBC Energy Coach can tell you whether it is still taking oil-heated homes.

How this was checked

The New Brunswick and Nova Scotia closures in the routing above were read off NB Power's and Efficiency Nova Scotia's own pages, not off NRCan's, which still presents co-delivery as the live route.
