ComEd Whole Home Electric partly open

Administered by ComEd (Commonwealth Edison).

ComEd's free electrification program for households at or below 80% of area median income: an air-source heat pump, a heat pump water heater, an induction stove, an electric dryer and a panel upgrade where needed, plus weatherization if the home has not had it. The 2026 money for gas-heated homes is fully allocated; electrically heated homes can still apply, and gas-heated homes can enroll to be considered for 2027.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

Nothing is paid to you and no value is published: ComEd's contractors install the equipment free for single-family households.

Installed free in a single-family home

  • An air-source heat pump
  • A heat pump water heater, or an ENERGY STAR electric water heater
  • An induction or electric stove
  • A heat pump or electric clothes dryer
  • An electrical panel upgrade where needed
  • Weatherization, if the home has not been weatherized before

The thing most pages get wrong

Village and regional pages still invite residents to enroll whatever the home burns; South Holland's notice says the program replaces systems on natural gas, propane or electricity. ComEd's own page says 2026 funding for homes heated with natural gas has been fully allocated. A gas-heated household enrolling now is being considered for 2027.

The income table is last year's

ComEd publishes $95,900 as the line for a family of four. HUD's 80% figure for the Chicago area, in effect since 1 May 2026, is $97,200. A household between the two is inside the current federal line but outside ComEd's table; ask ComEd which one it applies.
