Enhanced Energy Savings Program open

Administered by NB Power, under the SaveEnergyNB brand.

New Brunswick's income-tested programme: free insulation, air sealing, ventilation and, where the house calls for it, a heat pump. One income line for the whole province — under $70,000 combined — and it does not matter how you heat or who sells you your power.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

Nothing is paid to the household and no value is published. NB Power sends approved contractors, pays them, and the upgrades are free.

What you receive

  • Insulation for basements, attics and walls
  • Ventilation improvements where air quality or moisture is a problem
  • An energy-efficient heat pump for heating and cooling, where the home qualifies
  • A pre-upgrade and a post-upgrade evaluation by an energy advisor
  • Training on using and maintaining any new equipment
  • On a mini-split heat pump: a 10-year parts and labour warranty, and three free deep cleans within those 10 years

The thing most pages get wrong

This is the programme that replaced oil-to-heat-pump money for lower-income New Brunswickers. If the whole-home heating system is an oil boiler or oil furnace, a cold-climate air source heat pump can be recommended as part of the free work — which is what the closed federal programme used to pay for. If the house is on electric baseboards with no heat pump, a mini-split can be recommended instead.

And the second thing

Acceptance is first-come, first-served and subject to funding. NB Power screens on income and on whether the home needs the work, and only successful applicants are contacted. A household under the income line is eligible to apply, not entitled to the upgrades.

If you do not qualify

A household over $70,000 applies to the Total Home Energy Savings Program instead, pays $99 for the evaluation, and is paid rebates after the work.
