LG&E and KU residential rebates and WeCare open

Administered by Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities (PPL).

LG&E and KU pay residential customers $400 for an ENERGY STAR air-source or ductless heat pump, $300 for a heat pump water heater or central air conditioner and $250 for a gas furnace, applied for online. Income-qualified owners and renters get free WeCare upgrades, such as thermostats, efficient water devices and, in some homes, insulation and duct sealing, on self-attested income.

The thing most pages get wrong

Search results for LG&E and KU's rebate page list four items: heat pump water heaters, central air conditioners, ductless and air source heat pumps. The page itself also lists $250 for a natural gas furnace, which those snippets leave out.

No income paperwork for WeCare

LG&E and KU say they 'do not require income verification as part of the self-attest process' for WeCare. Doors and windows are never included; insulation and duct sealing are installed 'in some cases'.

One amount per item

LG&E and KU's rebates are a single amount per item, with no efficiency tiers on the page: $400 for a qualifying heat pump, $300 for a heat pump water heater.
