Home Energy Retrofits open

Administered by Efficiency Manitoba, the province's energy efficiency utility.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

No maximum is published. The rebate is the measured annual energy saving times $75 per gigajoule, rising to $150 per gigajoule for savings that take the home past a typical new home's rating.

Who is eligible

home
A single-detached home, duplex or triplex, lived in 12 months a year, that you own.
utility
Electricity or natural gas from Manitoba Hydro.
evaluation
An EnerGuide evaluation before any work, and a final one after.
envelope
At least half the energy saving must come from the building envelope: walls, attics, windows and doors.

What disqualifies you

The rules people find out about after the work is done.

  • Projects already under way.
  • New homes and seasonal properties.
  • Any measure Efficiency Manitoba has already paid a rebate for, such as insulation, heat pumps, solar, or windows and doors.

Where the application goes

An energy advisor starts it.

Every eligible projectBook an EnerGuide evaluation with a service organization, send the documents and your plans to Efficiency Manitoba before work starts, then have the final evaluation done.

The thing most pages get wrong

It replaces the individual rebates rather than adding to them. Insulation, window, door and heat pump rebates cannot be claimed for the same work, except the Ground Source Heat Pump Program, which can.
