Mass Save insulation, air sealing and the HEAT Loan open

Administered by the Sponsors of Mass Save, through Home Performance Contractors, Direct Weatherization contractors and lead vendors.

Mass Save takes 75% to 100% off approved insulation and pays for air sealing after a no-cost home energy assessment, deducted on the insulation contract. Single-pane windows replaced with ENERGY STAR Most Efficient models earn $75 each, and the 0% HEAT Loan lends up to $25,000 for up to seven years.

Where the application goes

Book a no-cost Home Energy Assessment; the contractor deducts the incentive on the insulation contract. For the HEAT Loan, take the authorization form from the assessment to a participating lender before the work.

The thing most pages get wrong

The HEAT Loan is no longer $50,000. A widely read guide still quotes up to $50,000 for a heat pump; Mass Save's own pages, Cape Light Compact and National Grid all give a maximum of $25,000, with terms of up to seven years depending on income.

Paid on the contract, not by mail

The insulation incentive comes off the insulation contract, and the HEAT Loan is paid as a two-party check to you and the contractor. Window rebates need the old windows counted at an assessment before you buy the new ones.

Weatherize before a whole-home heat pump

Finishing the recommended weatherization is required for window rebates, moderate-income heating rebates and the whole-home heat pump rebate, and it earns a $500 bonus on a partial-home heat pump.

Fossil-fuel equipment is out

Mass Save stopped paying for and financing gas, oil and propane equipment in 2024: residential systems had to be installed by 31 August 2024. Low-income households upgrading existing equipment are the exception.
