Ameren Missouri heat pump rebates through Pay As You Save (PAYS) open
Administered by Ameren Missouri, through its Pay As You Save and FastTrack HVAC PAYS contractors.
Ameren Missouri pays $2,000 toward an air-source heat pump, $5,000 for a ground-source system and $500 a ton for a mini-split in 2026, but only inside its Pay As You Save program: the rebate cuts the project cost, and the balance is repaid on your electric bill with 3% interest, tied to the meter. Gas-heated homes must keep their furnace.

Who is eligible
- who
- Ameren Missouri residential electric customers; every one can get the free home energy assessment.
- rebates
- Only in 'tier 4 of the PAYS program', meaning upgrades financed through the PAYS charge on your bill.
- HVAC
- The old air conditioner must be at least 10 years old, rated 14 SEER or less, or no longer working.
- occupancy
- You must have lived in the home for the past 12 months, for the usage analysis.
- renters and mobile homes
- Renters need the property owner's written consent. Mobile homes must be on a permanent foundation and no more than 35 years old.
What disqualifies you
The rules people find out about after the work is done.
- New construction.
- Removing an existing gas, propane or wood heat source: the chart requires a home with non-electric heat to keep it as primary or backup heat.
- Projects whose estimated savings do not cover the PAYS charge, unless you pay a copay.

The thing most pages get wrong
Ameren Missouri's $2,000 heat pump rebate is not a mail-in check. Ameren's 2026 chart says that to be eligible 'you must participate in tier 4 of the PAYS program' and that 'Rebates will reduce the total cost of the upgrades.' The rest is repaid on your electric bill with 3% interest, and the charge stays with the meter if you move.
Gas-heated homes keep the furnace
Ameren says it 'does not promote fuel switching'. In its scenarios chart, a home with central air and a gas furnace gets $1,000 for a dual-fuel heat pump; the $2,000 dual-fuel figure appears where a dual-fuel heat pump is being replaced.
Free instead, at lower incomes
CommunitySavers, offered with Spire, installs free upgrades for customers at or below 80% of area median income or 200% of poverty, through 31 December 2026 while funds last.
