Columbia Water & Light heat pump rebates open
Administered by City of Columbia Utilities (Columbia Water & Light).
Columbia's city utility pays $800 for a 15.2 to 18.1 SEER2 air conditioner or heat pump that replaces an existing system, and $1,200 above that or for a geothermal unit under five tons. A separate electrification rebate pays $1,200 when a heat pump replaces a central air conditioner, but not when the old system was a heat pump or electric furnace.

The thing most pages get wrong
A rebate guide puts Columbia at 'up to $2,600 when replacing gas heating'. The city publishes two separate rebates, $800 or $1,200 for the new system and $1,200 for electrification, and no combined figure, and it pays no electrification rebate when the system being replaced already had a heat pump or an electric furnace.
Two pages, two descriptions
The air conditioner page describes the electrification rebate as replacing 'air conditioners and gas furnace with a qualifying heat pump'; the electrification page offers it for 'a qualifying dual fuel heat pump or a heat pump with electric auxiliary heat'. Ask the utility which applies before removing a furnace.
Check the rating first
Columbia tells buyers to confirm the SEER2 rating in the AHRI Directory before buying, because a manufacturer's rating can be higher than the unit performs.
