My Safe Florida Home hurricane mitigation grants open

Administered by the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS).

Free wind-mitigation inspections, then grants of up to $10,000 to harden an owner-occupied Florida home against hurricanes: impact windows and doors, garage doors, roof-to-wall connections, roof deck attachment and a secondary water barrier. Only low- and moderate-income homeowners can get a grant, and low-income grants need no match.

What disqualifies you

The rules people find out about after the work is done.

  • Household income at or above 120% of the county median: an inspection at most, and only if money is left.
  • Work started before the grant is approved.
  • Work the initial inspection did not recommend.

The thing most pages get wrong

Grants are not for everyone any more. Since 1 July 2025 only low- and moderate-income homeowners can get one; a homeowner above 120% of the county median can get at most a free inspection, and only if money is left over after everyone else.

Not an energy rebate

It pays to make a home stronger against wind, not to cut its energy use. It is here because it is the largest grant most Florida homeowners can get for new windows and doors, and the program says the improvements can lower the hurricane part of an insurance premium.
