National Grid (New York) heat pump rebates open
Administered by National Grid (Niagara Mohawk), under NYS Clean Heat.
National Grid's upstate electric customers get up to $12,000 for a whole-home air-source heat pump that replaces the old heating in a weatherized single-family home, $7,000 otherwise, up to $23,000 for geothermal, and $1,250 for a heat pump water heater; more in disadvantaged communities. National Grid's New York gas rebates have ended.

Apartments and homes under 1,000 sq ft get half. National Grid publishes these tables as images; they match the NYS Clean Heat manual of 1 September 2026.
Who is eligible
- who
- Homes of one to four units, owners or renters, with the utility's electric account. Existing homes; new construction gets geothermal and water heater incentives only.
- system
- A cold-climate heat pump system sized to heat the whole home (or whole apartments). Partial systems no longer qualify, except to complete one.
- contractor
- A NYS Clean Heat participating contractor, who applies for you and must pass the whole incentive on to you.
- cap
- Clean Heat incentives are limited to 70% of the project cost, or 85% for a project in a disadvantaged community getting the higher rate.
- electric customers
- Heat pump incentives are for National Grid electric customers, upstate. Downstate National Grid supplies only gas.
- income-qualified
- The Weatherization Health and Safety Program fixes safety problems for free, at EmPower+'s income lines, after you apply to EmPower+.
Where the application goes

The thing most pages get wrong
Rebate sites still list National Grid's New York gas furnace, boiler and thermostat rebates. National Grid says its Gas Prescriptive Rebate program is no longer accepting applications, its in-store rebates have ended, and downstate its Total Home Comfort insulation program is not taking new applications. What remains is Clean Heat, for electric customers.
The Weatherized Tier, new on 1 September 2026
NYS Clean Heat pays a higher rate when the home is already weatherized: it was built after 2010, it completed a qualifying insulation package (NYSERDA's Comfort Home or the utility's own), or the contractor shows its heating load per square foot is under the program's line. The contractor decides which tier applies, so ask before you sign. From 1 March 2028 weatherization becomes a condition of any Clean Heat incentive.
