Ohio Home Energy Savings Program (HOMES and HEAR) not launched

Administered by the Ohio Department of Development's Office of Energy and Environment.

Ohio was awarded $249 million for the federal home energy rebates and has launched neither program. The state's page says it is waiting for federal approval of an application submitted on 12 November 2024, and still expects a launch in late 2024 or early 2025.

The thing most pages get wrong

Electrify Cincy, Cincinnati's electrification site, lists the HEAR stove and dryer rebates under 'Federal Rebates (Available Now)', and a rebate calculator leads its Ohio page with HEAR's $8,000 heat pump rebate through the Department of Development. Neither program has launched in Ohio.

The state's page swaps the names

It calls the whole-home program for all incomes 'the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program (HOMES)'. HOMES is the Home Efficiency Rebates; the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates are the income-qualified program, which Ohio calls HEEHR.

Still promising 2025

The page answers 'When will rebates be available?' with the fourth quarter of 2024 or the first quarter of 2025. The U.S. Department of Energy says only that the rebates are available in select states.
