Heating Rebates for Biomass, Firewood and Wood Pellets open

Administered by efficiencyPEI.

PEI pays for wood heat, which most of Canada has stopped doing. There are two halves: a 10% rebate on wood pellets and firewood with no income test at all, usually taken off at the till, and equipment rebates for biomass stoves, boilers and furnaces that pay substantially more to households under $35,000.

What disqualifies you

The rules people find out about after the work is done.

  • Seasonal homes and cottages, for the low-income rate
  • Homes under construction
  • Equipment for a business or tourism dwelling, or a property rented out for less than a year - those route to the Business Energy Rebate instead

Where the application goes

Fuel and equipment go in by different doors.

Where the application goes
If this is youApply here
Wood pellets and firewoodAsk the retailer first - many apply the 10% at the point of sale. Otherwise file a Customer Rebate Application Form and a PEI Payee Registration Form.
Biomass stove, boiler or furnaceFile the energy efficient equipment rebate application with your receipts, property tax number (PID) and proof of income.

The thing most pages get wrong

The 10% fuel rebate has no income limit and often needs no application - the retailer takes it off at the till. It is the only thing in this dataset that pays for the fuel itself rather than for the equipment that burns it.

And the second thing

One year from installation to apply, and PEI means it. Most of this dataset lets you apply whenever; here a 2025 stove claimed in 2027 is simply gone.
