What it pays

The thing most pages get wrong

Closed, but not finished. If you bought a heat pump between 15 April 2025 and 15 April 2026 you can still apply, because the rebate runs for one year from purchase rather than to a programme end date. That window shuts for good on 15 April 2027.

And the second thing

PEI has installed 45,000 heat pumps since 2018 on $95 million of provincial and federal money. The rebates closing does not mean the free programme did - it means the province has largely finished the job it set out to do.

Why it closed

Heat pump rebates ended on 15 April 2026. Purchases made between 15 April 2025 and 15 April 2026 can still be claimed, because rebates run for one year from the date of purchase - so the last of these claims expire on 15 April 2027.

Status note

Farms and businesses route to Business Energy Rebates or Strategic Energy Solutions instead. Private long-term care and community care organisations route to the Cooling and Capital Improvement Program.
