SolarHomes closed

Administered by Efficiency Nova Scotia, operated by EfficiencyOne.

Nova Scotia's residential solar rebate, which ran from 2018 and paid for more than 6,000 installations. It is closed to homeowners. A smaller version survives for registered non-profits and charities, and that is what a search still finds.

What it pays

Closed to homeowners

The thing most pages get wrong

The programme page is still live and still headed “Start generating your own electricity”, which is the kind of page that sends a homeowner to a solar contractor expecting a rebate that ended eighteen months ago. Only non-profits and charities can still apply.

Why it closed

Efficiency Nova Scotia stopped accepting applications from homeowners on 17 April 2025. Approved projects had to be finished by 31 March 2026, so even the tail of it is now over.

Status note

The surviving non-profit stream pays $0.60 per watt of installed direct current, covering up to 25% of system cost before HST, to a maximum of $15,000. It is not open to households.

If you do not qualify

Nova Scotia has no residential solar rebate. Halifax homeowners can still borrow through Solar City, which is financing rather than a grant.
