South Carolina Weatherization Assistance Program open

Administered by the S.C. Office of Economic Opportunity, through county community action agencies, with Duke Energy funding for its customers.

South Carolina weatherizes homes free for households at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, $66,000 a year for a family of four, through the community action agency for each county. Duke Energy funds weatherization for its South Carolina customers under 200% of poverty or on SNAP, WIC or LIHEAP, including heating and cooling repair or replacement and refrigerator replacement.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

Neither the state nor Duke publishes a per-home maximum for South Carolina. The local agency's assessment decides the work.

Typical work under Duke Energy's program

  • Sealing air leaks and duct work
  • Installing insulation
  • Tune-ups and repairs, and if needed replacement, of heating and cooling systems
  • Testing refrigerators and replacing them if needed
  • Health and safety repairs
  • Energy education

The thing most pages get wrong

Duke Energy's South Carolina weatherization page tells customers to 'go to www.nccaa.net/weatherization and search for the agency that services your county.' That is the North Carolina Community Action Association's site. In South Carolina, the Office of Economic Opportunity lists the community action agency for each county.

The table is current

OEO's limits are the 2026 federal poverty guidelines doubled: $66,000 for a family of four. Duke's page links the 2026 guidelines too.
