Texas property tax exemption for solar and wind devices open

Administered by your county appraisal district, under section 11.27 of the Texas Tax Code.

The value a solar or wind-powered energy device adds to a Texas home is exempt from property tax, when the device is mainly for on-site use. You apply to your county appraisal district with Form 50-123, between 1 January and 30 April of the year you want it for.

What it pays

The value solar adds, not taxed

There is no dollar figure: what it saves depends on how your appraisal district values the system and on your local tax rates. It covers the added appraised value only; the house and land are taxed as before.

Who is eligible

device

deadline
File between 1 January and 30 April of the tax year.

Where the application goes

It does not pay you anything

It stops the value of the panels from raising your property tax bill. The state pays no solar rebate of its own; Austin Energy, AEP Texas and TNMP pay their own, set out on the Texas page.
