Winter Warming Program open

Administered by efficiencyPEI, delivered by Summerhill Connect.

A free basic-measures visit for lower-income Islanders: air sealing, a programmable thermostat, a low-flow shower head, LED bulbs, and a voucher for a heating system cleaning. It is the smallest programme here and the easiest to qualify for, and unlike most Atlantic programmes it is open to renters who pay their own heat.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

Nothing is paid to the householder. A tradesperson installs the measures free of charge, so the value is in the work and the heating-system voucher rather than in a sum.

What you receive

  • Free air sealing
  • A programmable thermostat, installed
  • A low-flow shower head, installed
  • ENERGY STAR LED light bulbs
  • A voucher for a free heating system cleaning

The thing most pages get wrong

A renter can get this. Most Atlantic programmes are for homeowners only; here the test is who pays the heating bill, not whose name is on the deed, and the property can be a year-round rental.

And the second thing

Once every five years per property, not per household. Moving into a home that had the visit four years ago means waiting, whoever lived there before you.

Status note

efficiencyPEI values the heating system voucher two ways on the same page - "up to $115" in the list of measures and "$100 + HST" further down. At PEI's 15% HST those are the same voucher. Expect savings of $250 to $650 a year in heating costs, on the province's own estimate.
