Wisconsin solar rebate and property tax exemption open

Administered by Focus on Energy (the rebate) and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue with local assessors (the exemption).

Focus on Energy pays $600 per kilowatt, up to $2,400, toward a home solar system placed in operation in 2026, and Wisconsin exempts solar energy systems from general property tax; you ask for the exemption on Form PR-303, filed with your local assessor by 1 March. The federal solar tax credit ended for systems placed in service after 2025.

The thing most pages get wrong

The property tax exemption has a paperwork step. The Department of Revenue's Form PR-303 tells owners to 'Submit completed form to your local assessor by March 1', with supporting documents such as the system's specifications; the assessor determines what qualifies.

Reserve before you install

Focus asks you to work with your Trade Ally contractor 'to reserve your solar PV rebate', then apply within 60 days of the system going into operation.

No federal credit to add

The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D) ended for systems placed in service after 31 December 2025; the Focus rebate and the property tax exemption remain.
