Home Energy Efficiency Loan open

Administered by Manitoba Hydro.

A loan, not a rebate: Manitoba Hydro finances energy upgrades at 6.20% for the first five years, repaid on your energy bill. Up to $12,500 per home, or $20,000 for a ground source heat pump or solar.

What it pays

No published cap — and that is the honest answer

Nothing is given to you. This is borrowing, repaid with interest, and it can be used alongside Efficiency Manitoba's rebates.

Who is eligible

owner
You own the home, and have an active Manitoba Hydro account and credit approval.
home
Detached or semi-detached, your primary residence or your tenant's. Mobile homes on permanent foundations qualify; for a ground source heat pump or solar you must own the land.
on reserve
Indigenous customers in Band-owned homes qualify with a Band Council Resolution.
approval
Before any work starts or any material is bought.

What disqualifies you

The rules people find out about after the work is done.

  • Seasonal dwellings, apartment buildings, garages, commercial properties and homes under construction.
  • Projects in progress or already finished.
  • Labour on its own, used equipment, and your own labour on a DIY project.

Every eligible upgradeApply to Manitoba Hydro before the work. Upgrades must meet Manitoba Hydro's specified efficiency levels.

The thing most pages get wrong

The 6.20% is fixed for five years only. A 15-year loan for a heat pump or solar system is re-priced at market rates for its last ten years, and Manitoba Hydro writes three months before the switch.
