Home Renovation Program open

Administered by the Nunavut Housing Corporation.

Nunavut's main help for homeowners: a forgivable loan of up to $100,000 for major repairs and energy upgrades, scaled by income, or a rebate of half the cost up to $20,000 for work you do yourself. Energy efficiency is third in its order of priorities.

The thing most pages get wrong

Nothing is forgiven for five years. The loan is forgiven 20% a year only in years six to ten, and falls due in full if you stop living in the house.

Stacking

It combines with the Emergency Repair Program, and with the Elders Housing Program's grants of up to $5,000 for maintenance and $30,000 for repairs. Oil tank replacements, once a separate programme, now come under it.
